Travel inspiration for 2022.

Photography (Amsterdam) & words by Plant Sit.

Let's look ahead to 2022.

Travel has been off the cards for many of us during these past 2 years (whatever it is now!) and we can’t wait to get back exploring botanical hideaways in cities across the globe. What’s top of your list?

Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

One of the top places on our list, when we headed to Amsterdam in 2017 (see pics!), was Hortus Botanicus. This magnificent garden has been around for nearly 4 centuries, originally founded in 1638 to serve as a herb garden for the city’s doctors and pharmacists. It’s one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world & did not disappoint.

Palm Springs, USA.

Like everyone else, we are all remembering the "last holiday” we had before the pandemic began, and for us, we were lucky enough to go on a road trip across the USA. From Las Vegas to Los Angeles, via San Francisco, we failed to fit in a visit to Moorten Botanical Garden, which is 100% on our list & has described itself as having The World’s First Cactarium. Sounds right up our street. Established in 1938, this is a privately-owned arboretum was created to showcase the incredible varieties of desert plants, from miniature to giants, and we can’t wait to get over there when we can!

Sheffield, UK.

Yes, much closer to home & a city we visit often, but with the uncertainty that lies ahead, it’s worth having a few stay-cation weekends booked in. Sheffield is a beautiful city, close to the Peak District & has a very impressive Botanical Gardens nestled in the centre. With values close to our hearts, it is said that local residents who were concerned about the lack of public open spaces and facilities to promote healthy recreation in Sheffield signed a petition and the botanical garden was born.

Singapore.

For something slightly different, and maybe for a trip of a lifetime, Gardens By The Bay is something we can only imagine at the moment. From the outstanding Supertree Observatory that you can see across the city, to the beautiful Cloud Forest and everything in between, this is one for the list. We would love to hear from anyone who has been!

Looking at this list, we can’t wait to get our bags packed & go searching for inspiration! Where are you planning on going next? Join the conversation over on Instagram too 🌿
